Swedish Massage is the best-known Western technique in the world: five combined strokes (effleurage, petrissage, friction, tapotement and vibration) that work on muscle, fascia and circulation with medium-firm pressure. At Harmony Sanctuary® we follow the classic method, with no shortcuts.
💆 What is Swedish massage?
Developed in the 19th century by Per Henrik Ling, Swedish massage is the basis of much of modern therapeutic massage. Its aim: to release muscle tension, activate venous and lymphatic circulation and improve joint range of motion. The pressure is firm but respectful, reaching deep layers without pain. It is less targeted than a sports massage but more active than a relaxing one: the perfect balance when you want a «complete» massage.

✨ Benefits of Swedish massage
- Releases muscle knots and chronic tension.
- Activates blood and lymph circulation.
- Improves flexibility and range of motion.
- Reduces back and neck pain caused by poor posture.
- Speeds up recovery after moderate physical effort.
- Combines relaxation with a real therapeutic effect.
👤 Who is it for?
- Anyone who spends long hours sitting in front of a screen.
- People with chronic pain in the lower back, neck or shoulders.
- Amateur athletes in a maintenance phase (if you train hard, see our Sports Massage).
- Anyone who wants something deeper than a relaxing massage without going as far as a sports massage.
- To repeat every 2–4 weeks as a body-care routine.
🌿 What the session is like at Harmony Sanctuary®
On arrival at our Málaga centre, a short consultation about the areas of tension and your choice of a neutral or lightly scented vegetable oil. We work on the whole back, neck, arms, legs and, depending on the length, glutes and abdomen.
The pressure is firm, but we check with you during the session to adjust it. The Swedish technique alternates long gliding strokes with deep kneading, finishing with gentle tapping. At the end, an herbal tea and five minutes’ rest.

❓ Frequently asked questions
Swedish or relaxing — what’s the difference?
Swedish works on deeper layers with kneading and friction. The Esencial uses gentler pressure + aromatherapy for emotional switching off. Swedish is more therapeutic.
Is it painful?
No. Firm, yes; painful, no. We adjust the pressure continuously based on your feedback.
How long does the effect last?
Between 1 and 2 weeks as maintenance; longer if you combine it with good posture and regular movement.
60 or 90 minutes?
60 for the whole back plus neck and arms. 90 if you want to include legs and glutes with enough time.
Can I train afterwards?
On the same day, it is better to rest or train lightly. The next day, no problem.
